Finance Council
Managing Giving and Preparing for the Future--The Role of the St. Augustine Finance Council

Sam King, Chair of the Finance Council

Role of the Finance Council
The St. Augustine Church Finance Council meets five times a year. The Finance Council members are tasked with supplying Father Geaney with information and suggestions regarding the administration of parish property and finances.

The Council reviews all proposed major expenditures of $10,000 or more. The Finance Council's role enables the Pastor to make good decisions regarding not only short-term expenses, but also about capital expenditures.

The Council recommends the Operating Budget, which is inclusive of operational expenses and capital expenditures.  Most importantly, our Pastor's thorough discussion with the Finance Council members prepares him for future financial discussions with the entire parish membership, or impromtu inquiries by individual members.

A follow-up review of the Operating Budget and current income and expenses is done on a quarterly basis.  This allows the Finance Council to recommend ways of increasing revenue for the parish in a timely manner.  Additionally, the reviews enable the Pastor and the Council to keep parishioners continuously well-informed about the parish's financial health.

On an as needed basis, the Finance Council may meet jointly with the Parish Pastoral Council for integrating planning on behalf of the parish.  Sam King leads the Finance Council.

St. Augustine is one of 19 national Paulist-led parishes.  Many of the parishes already have completed very successful campaigns.
